You are not alone—and the abuse was not your fault.

At the National Center to Stop Educator Sexual Abuse, Misconduct, & Exploitation, we are committed to ending abuse in schools and supporting survivors on their path to healing.

Educator sexual abuse causes deep harm—leaving victims to carry feelings of shame, guilt, confusion, and isolation. Some struggle in silence for years. In the most tragic cases, the weight of the trauma can lead to self-harm or even suicide.

This is why we do the work we do: to break the silence, expose the truth, and prevent future harm.If you're reading this and have experienced abuse, know this: you are not alone—and it was not your fault.

Abusers use manipulation, trust, and secrecy to create harmful relationships. They often target children who are open, eager to learn, and trusting of adults. Families are deceived, too—believing their children are in safe hands.

But healing is possible.

As more survivors speak out, the silence lifts. With increased awareness, parents, educators, and institutions are beginning to recognize the signs and act. Help is available, and recovery—though not always easy—is real. You can go on to live powerful, meaningful lives.

Taking care of yourself is a courageous act. It’s not only the first step toward healing—it’s also how we build a safer world for others.
