Jeffrey Haverland

Board Member

Dr. Jeffrey Haverland is a Professor of Teacher Education at the University of Dubuque and serves as the assistant head of the department with a focus on licensure, assessment and student teaching. In addition to these roles, he serves as the Faculty Chair and Assessment Director for the University.


While in PK-12 education, he was a National Board Certified middle school science teacher, curriculum coordinator, and PK-8 principal. He is a member of the NASDTEC PPI planning team and serves on the executive board of the Iowa Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (IACTE).


His research and professional interests include PK-12 educator misconduct; ethics, risk and defensible decision-making for pre-service and inservice educators; Title IX issues in PK-12 schools and higher education; and Social Emotional Learning in higher education. Additionally, he consults with Iowa educators to facilitate restorative practices related to risk and decision-making and co-leads an IACTE workgroup on risk, decision-making and the Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE) which supports ethics education and training for all educator preparation programs in Iowa. Additionally, he is a volunteer EMT and firefighter.
