Donna Bulatowicz, Ph.D.

Member, Board of Advisors

Despite being sexually abused by an upper elementary teacher, Dr. Donna Bulatowicz chose to follow her dream of becoming a teacher. She has over two decades’ experience in education, including teaching grades 3-7 as well as graduate and undergraduate courses.

As a survivor and teacher, she has created and given sexual abuse education and prevention trainings to teachers, aspiring teachers, and aspiring school counselors. The trainings include tools that provide guidance on making school safer. Additionally, Dr. Bulatowicz writes articles, blog posts, and social media posts that help readers learn more about trauma, healing, grooming, sexual abuse prevention, and related topics. She is an advocate and became the adult and teacher she needed.

Dr. Bulatowicz designs and conducts qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodology research. Throughout her healing journey, she gained expertise in sexual abuse prevention, trauma impacts, and healing that compliment her expertise in education, children’s literature, reading, and curricula. These areas of expertise position her to find connections among concepts about which there is no published research. She is currently working on meta-analyses and autoethnographies.

She is the former chair of the Charlotte Huck Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children, the former president of the Montana Association of Teachers of English Language Arts, a former member of the founding board for 406 Pride, a cofounder for a graduate student group, and had numerous other leadership experiences.
